I HAVE HEARD IT SAID MORE THAN ONCE THAT CONTEMPORARY PAINTING   IS DEAD.  WELL HERE IS MY REASON WHY...

burgudy tie w/ pink pocket square  by Rocco scibetta  24'" X 36"
Art may still be the only thing that makes any sense. I went to a party the other night and the only thing I remember feeling good about was that I actually enjoyed dressing up a little bit and wearing a tie with a cool pocket square.I entertained the  thought for a very short time I might add , that interacting with people outside of the social media network would be fulfilling and engaging . That real people, The  flesh and blood folks of our tribe, would feel  like that too .We would all be on the same page with the concept of what people used to call fun. .But in reality, it really was not.

Putting aside that  No  one else had a tie and a cool pocket square. It looked like no one else was having any fun.  The music sucked , and not because of what theDj. played, He was Brilliant the poor  guy. It came to rest  more on the fact ,that nobody cared what he played or didn't seem to even have enough soul to like it or dislike it. It didn't matter to them. The  indifference made the music suck by gestalt . It was like Ralph Kramden  telling a joke at the Water buffalo lodge and no one  laughed . Worse !  It was  no one cared about laughing..  I began to realize that this malaise , was choking everything.

My Wife and I entertained each other by making small talk look like big important stuff to the boobs at our table.   Out of desperation they followed our lead in between bites of  food and drinks checking cellphones for emails and lost messages . "This is life without art I thought to myself." I was talking to a man in a modern day leisure suit, he had the attention span of a spider monkey. His wife was like Joan Collins only without a story to tell.

By the time the wine began to tickle my senses , the sarcasm was getting edgy and so was I it was time to leave,   as we left  I couldn't  get this painting out of my head.
